Crystal Valley Alpacas is located in SW Washington near Woodland and is owned by Bob and Michiko Bratland.
We became interested in alpacas about six years ago and got started with two bred females and a junior stud. We later purchased a yearling female and another junior stud. Since then, through careful selection of outside breeding and our own herd sires, the herd has grown to 19. This process has produced some very nice alpacas that include bloodlines from such industry giants as Victor, Hemingway, Augusto, Legacy, Felix, Leon, Demetorio, Elever, Shackleton (Neruda), Danko (Rayo del Sol), Vengadore, Aladdin, and Royal Fawn. This breeding program has been clearly successful, with our alpacas earning about 110 total ribbons including nearly 50 blue and more than a dozen reserve and color championships. Most of our herd has been entered in some type of show (halter, fleece or spinoff) and has almost always earned a ribbon. During 2009 Crystal Valley and four neighboring ranches formed a group we named Southwest Washington Alpaca Group, or SWAG. The purpose of the group is to share information, make our herd sires available to purchasers of SWAG member female alpacas, share pens and work together at shows, and to generally cooperate in every way possible for the benefit of the group and each member ranch. Collectively the 5 ranches own well over 100 alpacas.
